anime advice

ð dragfyre pokes around at the Asahi top 100, notes a few he’s heard of
and watched.
<dragfyre> Full Metal Alchemist, One Piece, Rozen Maiden… all fairly
high rated.
<dragfyre> Full Metal Alchemist is pretty popular. o_O
<dragfyre> and dragon ball of course, but I’m not sure I’d watch that
if it wasn’t for lulz.
<dragfyre> what’s the name of that anime with the angel who goes around
clubbing people into a gory death?
<William> Club-to-death angel Dokuro-chan, I believe.

<William> What anime to watch will depend on your budget. I highly
recommend Azumanga Daioh, Oh My Goddess (a.k.a. Ah!
Megami-Sama), and of course I personally am a rabid Sailor
Moon fan but that’s not everybody’s cup of tea.
<William> There are the classics, of course. Utena, Slayers, NGE, etc.
<William> What have you watched and liked?

<William> Allright, so skip the heavy fighting anime, but you can handle
darkness, and you like good art. I can work with that.
<William> Haibane Renmei. Earth Girl Arjuna. GTO (Great Teacher Onizuka).
<William> My recommendations for all the previous stand as well.

<William> HR, EGA, and GTO are lesser-known but excellent, in my opinion.
Azumanga and A!MG are very mainstream.
<dragfyre> yeah, I’ve heard of both of those.
<William> HR: religious-themes psychodrama. EGA: high-myth ecologically
motivated fantasy. GTO: comedy/drama, modern realistic. Azumanga
Daioh:uproariously funny slice-of-life school setting. A!MG:
romance/comedy, bit of drama, goddesses as the main characters
(Shinto and Norse elements).

and then there’s just oddball shows like Lain.
